A Levels
Opt for A Levels at RFDC
The A Level Academy at RFDC offers a wide range of A Level subjects and provides the necessary stepping stone between school and university or employment. The learning environment provides the perfect balance between support and independence. Our A Level lecturers are dedicated to teaching at A Level and their expertise, coupled with our students' willingness to learn, delivers excellent results.
Our overall A Level pass rate in 2009 was a fantastic 100%. A-C grades were 80% and A-B grades were 48%. These figures show that nearly half of our A Level students achieved the top grade of A and B in their exams and that four out of five of all grades were at C or above.
What grades do I need to start A Levels?
You will need at least 5 GCSE passes at A*-C, including either English or Maths or 4 GCSE passes at A*-C including both English and Maths. Please note that there are additional entry requirements for individual A Level subjects and these are specified with each course listing. NB BTEC First Diplomas or DIDA count as one GCSE entry for AS/A2.
How many subjects can I choose?
All students take four AS subjects in their first year and continue with three to study at A2 in their second year. This is the standard pattern for university entry. However, some students continue with four subjects to A2.
First class teaching by specialist A Level lecturers
We are very proud of our highly qualified specialist lecturing team who teach only A Levels. Many of them are experienced examiners of the subjects they teach and some are Principal and Chief Examiners, contributing to the textbooks in their subjects. You will find further information about them under subject listings.
Outstanding support for success - achieve your potential with us
In our 2009 inspection, we were recognised as offering outstanding support and guidance to all our students. As an A Level student, you will have the support of a personal academic tutor through weekly tutorials and our highly praised Academic Study Skills programme, which is unique to us. The study skills programme is designed to ensure that you achieve the best possible AS and A2 grades and are fully prepared for study at university and for employment.
In the A2 year, you will have the support you need for university applications (UCAS), wherever you decide to go. Your tutor will advise you on how to achieve the university place of your choice. In 2009, all our A2 students who were holding university offers had their place confirmed.
